A ranking member of the House if Representatives, Hon. Femi Bamisile, has saluted Governor Biodun Oyebanji for mulling the proposal to build mega schools in all the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State.
Bamisile, a former Speaker, said the shrewd and timely policy, will help in banishing out -of -school children from the state and broaden the scope of citizens’ access to education, particularly those children of school age.
The lawmaker representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency II, said these in a statement issued by his Media office in Abuja and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.
The Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, had last week through its Chairman, Prof Femi Akinwumi, revealed the intention of Oyebanji’s administration to construct mega schools in all the 16 council areas to accommodate more children.
Responding to the proposed policy, Bamisile, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Delegated Legislation, posited that such well thought-out action will help in shoring up facilities and improve the quality of education in the state.
Bamisile opined that the policy will add value in terms of rating of Ekiti’s performance in education as a pivotal sector of the economy.
The former Speaker, said though Ekiti has one of the least illiteracy rate and number of out of school children in the country, but stated that the measure will be a veritable measure to further bolster literacy rate among the citizens through unfettered access to education.
In his suggestion, Bamisile told the state government to also renovate the structures on ground, so that they won’t be abandoned when the mega schools take off full fledged.
“Let me commend the state government under Governor Biodun Oyebanji for this well articulated education policy. Building of mega schools will help in tackling illiteracy and boost access to education.
“One major feature of a mega school is that, it will increase quality, in terms of learning and teaching, because of the modern facilities that will be provided. Conducive learning environment is very important to the development of scholarship.
“But as these facilities are provided, the already existing structures should be elevated in terms of facilities and conducive environment, because not all the pupils will have access to the mega schools when it finally take off”.
