Ekiti approves establishment of public Secondary School Board

The Ekiti State Executive Council approved the presentation of a Bill on the establishment of the Public Secondary School Board to the Ekiti State House of Assembly for legislative processing and subsequent passage into law.

This was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Value Orientation, Mr Taiwo Olatunbosun. He said that the proposed Secondary School Board was parts of the decisions reached at State Executive Council meeting.

The proposed Board when finally passed into law will perform the following functions: i. Management of Public Senior Secondary Schools in Ekiti State; ii. Appointment, confirmation of appointment, re-absorption, promotion, posting, transfers, discipline, retirement, pension and termination of appointment of staff of the Board.

Others are payment of salaries and allowances of the employees of the Board based on the scheme of service approved by the State Government; iv. Ensuring that the minimum standard of public secondary schools, as may be prescribed from time to time by the appropriate authority, are complied.

Other functions are Organizing regular induction courses, seminars and workshops for its teaching and non-teaching staff: training and re-training of teaching and non-teaching staff; vi. Disbursing funds accruing to it from both Federal and State Government sources

Others include serving as an appellate body for petitions in respect of matters provided for in this law; and viii. Perform other functions as may be assigned to it from time to time by the Governor and the Commission.
