The Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Gold Adesola Adedayo, has appealed to media practitioners to be wary of their actions while reporting wars being waged against insurgency by the Nigerian Army, saying their actions could streghten or undermine the security agency.

The Commissioner, said the media, particularly the social media users should be strong partner to the Nigerian Army to reinforce the multifaceted wars being raised by by the federal government to safeguard the integrity of the nation and rescue it from blood suckers.

Adedayo gave the appeal in Ado Ekiti, on Thursday, while delivering a speech at a seminar organised by the Nigerian Army in collaboration with Ukan Kurugh Foundation.

The Commissioner commended the security forces and the foundation for organising a seminar for experts and professionals in diverse fields to ponder on how to strengthen the nation’s security archiectures toward combating the frightening level of insecurity confronting the nation.

He urged Nigerians to always avoid any action that could undermine the deft actions being taken by government and its agencies to make Nigeria safe, revealing that whoever does anything contrary, is being disservice to the country.

Adedayo described the fights against banditry, insurgency and kidnapping as not only assymetrical, but rigorous, which he said makes it imperative for all hands to be on deck to rid the country of all manners of senseless killings.

“I know for a fact that fostering a waterforced military-civilian relations often bolster the morale and wherewithal of the security outfits in getting the right intelligence gathering and foster good relations that can stabilise the system.

“Most instructive is the fact that such relations will help strengthen the promotion of human rights in conformity to the United Nations Human Rights Charters.

“I know that Nigerians are not oblivious of the significant roles the social media play in propagating the giant strides being made by the Nigerian Army to rout insurgents, bandits and killers out of our nation.

“In most cases, stories being reported on social media platforms and traditional media, could either promote or undermine the efforts of the Nigerian Army under this context. There was a need for us to design ways to overcome this challenge and this is an opportunity to so do.

“I know that this seminar will afford the participants, who are professionals in their own rights to ruminate and cross-fertilize ideas on the foregoing and articulate ways through which the two sides could work harmoniously to salvage the nation from its current perilous state”, Adedayo said.

The Commissioner described Ekiti youth as very “peaceful, intelligent and discipline”, assuring that his Ministry, being the rallying point for youth, will cooperate and partner the Nigeria Army at all times to fight insecurity.

“Let me commend the Nigerian Army for doing a thorough job to protect the territorial integrity of our nation. I think they deserve our supports in all ramifications”.

Adedayo appreciated Ukan Kurugh Foundation for midwifing a seminar tends to articulate the views of the experts on how best to incorporate the social media in wars against senseless killings in Nigeria.

“Let me appreciate the foundation for organising this seminar to promote security of lives and property as well as foster strong military-civilian relations in our country.
