The State Executive Council again approved the termination and re-award of the contract for the reconstruction of Awo-Ara-Ijero Ekiti Road.

The Commissioner for Information and Value Orientation Mr Taiwo Olatunbosun who stated this in a statement in Ado Ekiti, said that it was parts of the decisions reached at the weekly Exco meeting.

According to him, the contract for the reconstruction of Awo-Ara-Ijero Ekiti road was awarded to Messrs. RCF Nigeria Limited on 25th February, 2022 at a sum of N2,770,261,438.38 (two billion, seven hundred and seventy million, two hundred and sixty one thousand, four hundred and thirty eight naira, thirty eight kobo only).

However, the contractor having collected the notification of the contract award wrote a letter to the Ministry on 3rd March, 2022, stating that the company would not be able to execute the project at the amount as it was too low to the amount quoted for the job in its Bill of measurement and evaluation (BEME).

The Ministry waited for over a month, despite the seven-day deadline stated in the contract award letter without receiving any acceptance letter from the contractor.

Therefore, the Ministry sought approval to terminate and re-award the contract. The project was re-advertised and was awarded to Messrs. Metro Civil Engineering Construction Limited on 4th October, 2022 at the sum of N2,762,317,183.78 (two billion, seven hundred and sixty two million, three hundred and seventeen thousand, one hundred eighty three naira, seventy eight kobo only).

However, the contractor did not mobilize to the site since October, 2022 till date and could not proffer sufficient reason for his action. The State Exco considered the importance of the road as the only route that connects Ekameta communities to their Headquarter (Ijero Ekiti), its reconstruction and maintenance are crucial for transportation of agricultural produce, economic and social well-being of the areas and approved the termination re-award of the contract.
