The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has asked consumers to report distribution companies (DisCos) that refuse to provide cables and transformers.
In a post on Saturday via its social media platforms, NERC said DisCos have to provide every electricity facility to consumers, including poles.
“It is the duty of your DisCo to provide transformers, cables and poles,” NERC said.
“If your DisCo is asking you to provide any of these, kindly reach out to this dedicated email and phone number set-up to address these issues; Email:idn@nerc.gov.ng Phone No.:07074865354.”
NERC also encouraged the public to use the call centre for any form of complaints by dialling the numbers “02013444331 or 09088999244 or send an email to complaints@nerc.gov.ng”.
On March 22, NERC warned consumers against self-procurement of transformers without a formal agreement with distribution companies.
Aisha Mahmud, NERC’s commissioner and customer affairs, said it is not the responsibility of customers to procure transformers for the DisCos.
Mahmud said if such must happen, the customers and the DisCos must sign an undertaking.
NERC also told customers to notify the distribution company within their jurisdiction of any outstanding electricity bill before moving into new premises. {TheCable}
