OAU institute of cultural studies organises colloquium to review ‘Sacred Crowns of Ife’

The Institute of Cultural Studies of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State said it is organising a colloquium to review and discuss a new book titled: The Sacred Crowns of Ife.

A statement by Professor Gbenga Fasiku, the Director of the Institute, which was made available to Kayemo news on Wednesday, said that the book is authored by His Royal Majesty, Oba Bankole Ojutalayo, Laroka of Wanikin-Obamurewa, Ile-Ife.

He said, “the Institute is organizing the review and discussion of the book in order to validate and deepen the data presented in the book.

“It will afford the author and the audience at the colloquium to have first-hand assessments from experts and the ultimate users of the book. It is also aimed at providing avenue for scholars to explore the pedagogical value of the book and recommend it to the academic community.”

According to him, the Institute is convinced that the present book attempts to fill some particular gaps in recording the history of Ile-Ife in particular, and Yoruba in general.

“The Institute is poised to encouraging the current effort of the Royal Father, who, assumedly, has a closer encounter with the royal crowns, in writing the book, which is expected to elicit academic debates among scholars of cultural history.

“The book consists of eight chapters. Hence, four scholars have been invited to read and discuss two chapters each. These are Professor A. O. Adesoji, Department of History; Professor Olabisi Ayodele, Department of Sociology; Dr. Saheed Amusa, Department of History; and Dr. F.O. Hunsu, Department of English, all from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife,” he said.

Fasiku added that the colloquium would be chaired by Prof. Mojeed O. Alabi, Professor of Political Science, Osun State University, adding that, It is scheduled to hold on Wednesday 30th August, 2023 at the ACE Main Hall, OAK Park, Computer Centre, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, between 11:00am and 1:00pm.
