From Johnson Adeleye, Ado-Ekiti

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr Abiodun Oyebanji has berated the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) over poor electricity supply to the state.

Oyebanji expressed his displeasure during a meeting with the new management of the BEDC yesterday in Ado-Ekiti.

He said that based on the feedback he is getting from Ekiti people most of them bothers on poor electricity supply or non availability of it.

According to the Governor, Ekiti people are being most unfairly treated by the electricity distribution company, warning that the government would no longer tolerate such treatment.

“BEDC hasn’t been fair to us in Ekiti State and that informed the reason we have resulted to self help which is costing government a lot but we don’t mind as long as our people can enjoy electricity supply.

“This is because we campaigned on a mantra of shared prosperity and if the people must proper , they must be productive. There can never be productivity where power supply is very poor or not available.

“If there is regular and quality electricity supply , the people will be willing to pay .”

It could be recalled that many communities in the two Local Government areas of the state including Ekiti East and Gbonyin, have been without electricity for a period of ten years.

End.
