Panic as stray bullets hit five persons in Ekiti

No fewer than five persons have been fatally wounded as they were hit by bullets from the gun of an officer of the Ekiti State Agro Marshals in Ado Ekiti

Eyewitnesses account says that the incident happened at Ekute area of Ado Ekiti between 5 to 6pm on Friday.

It was learnt that the incident happened while there was a mild traffic congestion on the Ekute road due to a ceremony in the area.

The Agro Marshals vehicle conveying some officers were also said to be caught in the traffic.

The eyewitness account says that one of the officers suddenly jumped down from the vehicle to clear the road for their vehicle and in the process he started shooting to the air and some of the bullets strayed and hit the victims among whom were his colleagues.

However, while speaking with newsmen at the Police Clinic in Ado Ekiti, two officers who were hit by the bullets claimed that it was an accidental discharge.

The Commandant of the Agro Marshall Corps, Mr. Olamide Oni declined comment when he came to police clinic to check on the victims.

But from his conversation with the police, Oni confirmed that the concerned officer had been arrested and would be handed over to the police for proper investigation.
