As Nigeria celebrates its 64th anniversary of being a sovereign State today, a ranking member of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Bamisile, has urged Nigerians to exhibit patriotism and defend the country’s democracy for rapid socio-economic and political advancement of the nation.
As many Nigerians expressed disappointment about the country’s development trajectory, the former Ekiti State Assembly’s Speaker, insisted that citizens have every cause to roll out drums in celebration, in spite of the multifarious of challenges confronting the nation.
The federal lawmaker and chairman of House Committee on Delegated Legislation, said these in a statement on Tuesday, felicitating Nigerians on the country’s 64th independence anniversary and 28th anniversary of the creation of Ekiti State.
Bamisile, who is representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency II, said most of the countries who got independence almost the same time with Nigeria are no balkanized into fractions by secession threat, when Nigeria still stands united despite economic, political and security bedlams.
Bamisile congratulated Nigerians for keeping the country united for this long despite the threats, describing this as a clear vision that Nigeria’s dream can be actualised, if all the citizens can shun corruption, act of sabotage and imbibe patriotism in serving their fatherland.
The Federal lawmaker congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the anniversary, and expressed optimism that better days are coming as along as citizens are determined to coalesce efforts with their leaders to surmount some noticeable problems in the system.
“We are all aware that Nigeria is challenged since its independence 64 years ago. But we remain solidly united despite our diversities in religions, ethnicity and political inclinations. This is enough reason for us to roll out drums in celebration”, Bamisile said.
Bamisile felicitated Governor Biodun Oyebanji and Ekiti citizens on the 28th anniversary of the creation of the state by Gen Sanni Abacha Military Junta.
The All Progressives Congress, appreciated all the leaders that had made sacrifices for the uplift of the State in all facets, since its creation on October 1, 1996.
He urged Ekiti citizens to partner Governor Oyebanji in his efforts to rev up the pedal of development and make Ekiti epicentre of development, for the dreams of the founding fathers to be actualised in due course.
