The police disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen by it’s spokesman, SP Abutu Sunday.
According to him, “the command noticed a disturbing video circulating on the social media where an Officer in camouflage uniform was seen behaving erratically, suspected to be under the influence of an illicit drug.
“Upon noticing the video, the Command swung into action, identified the officer, arrested him and took him into custody.
“The Police Sergeant, who is currently serving at Ikole-Ekiti Division Police Headquarters, is in custody, though now in a stable condition, and will be made to undergo disciplinary procedure.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP FALADE ADEGOROYE MICHEAL, has ordered that the Police Officer be subjected to psychological and medical evaluation, preparatory to the commencement of disciplinary actions against him.
The Commissioner of Police wishes to unequivocally state that the behaviour portrayed by the Policeman in the video does not depict the standard discipline of the Nigeria Police Force.
While urging members of the public to remain calm, the Command wishes to reiterate its unflinching commitment to the protection of lives and property of all residents of the State and ensure the best behavior from the personnel of the Command at all times.
