A group under the auspices of the
Concerned Ise Ekiti, Indigene in the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm over alleged moves by some party leaders to impose a preferred aspirant, Mr Toyin Okoro on the people of the Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1.
The group called on Governor Biodun Oyebanji to intervene as the leader of the party in Ekiti State to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants.
Speaking with newsmen in Ado Ekiti, on behalf the group, Engineer Bayo Babalotin said that ranking in the national assembly attract a lot of benefits to a constituency, which is why the incumbent membe should be given another chance.
Also a petition sent to the national leadership of the party in Abuja the group drew its attention to the alleged clandestine endorsement of Mr Toyin Okoro as a preferred aspirant for the House of Representatives seat representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency I.
According to them, the aspirant lacks both moral and the competency required to represent the people at the National Assembly, insisting that ranking confered more advantage to the people.
The group insisted that the member representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives, AVM Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo(rtd) has all it takes to represent the people of the Constituency for second term have performed well in his ongoing first term.
They expressed confidence that his legislative achievements, constituency interventions and growing grassroots support would secure him the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket ahead of Friday’s primary election.
Ojuawo, who represents Ikere, Ise/Orun and Ekiti South-West Local Government Areas under the platform of the APC said his almost three years in the National Assembly had been marked by impactful motions, people-oriented bills, empowerment programmes and strategic interventions across the constituency.
According to Babalotin, the petition has been submitted to the office of the governor,
to the party, to the National
Assembly, to the Screening Committee but there has been no feedback from them.
Addressing why the petition was coming close to the primary, Babalotin said the group had been following up on the matter for months.
“In a situation whereby, with all this time, we have not had any serious feedback, we just have to call attention to it,” he said.
