Labour demands N200,000 minimum wage for Workers, seeks financial bailout to pay retirees Gratuities in Nigeria …As Oyebanji bags Union Award as best governor

The Nigeria Civil Service Union has advocated for the provision of financial bail out to both Federal and State governments to enable the three tiers of governments to pay the backlog of Gratuities and pensions of retired Public servants in Nigeria

This was part of the highlights of the communique issued at the end of the extraordinary National Delegates Conference held at the Green Minds Hotel, Utako Abuja Federal Capital Territory.

The communique signed by the National President Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday and the General Secretary Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga pointed out that the experience being encountered by pensioners across the country is better imagined than experienced.

The ex-rayed reports from across the States of the Federation, the reports revealed that majority of the states are owing pensioners their Gratuities as way back as 2013 running to billions of Nigeria.

It is an unimaginable scenario, if the category of workers who have retired as far back as 13 years ago and many more others who have retired recently.

The best solution is for the Federal Government to intervene urgently by providing financial bail out for this purpose so as to enable the senior citizens eat the fruits of their Labour and not in the grave

The union posited that “retirement is a natural sequence of life, workers who are agile today will definitely be due for retirement one day, hence , the commitment of people who are saddled with corporate and public governance should be alive to the reality of life as humans”.

In the same vein, the Union lends its voice to the agitations of organised labour in the country to move the current salary of workers to (N200,000) Two hundred thousand from N70, 000 Naira minimum salary so as to address the current economic imprisonment being experienced by Nigerian workers.

The meeting condemned in strong terms the worsening security situations in the country, where kidnapping and banditry have become dreadful and scaring especially ibadan, Kaduna, Kwara, Borno, Ekiti, Niger States insecurity saga where teachers, pupils were kidnapped without remorse and now demanding N1 Billion Naira with other mind boggling items

The federal government is hereby called upon to find lasting solutions to the war like kidnapping onslaught on the hapless Nigerian workers.

The highlight of the meeting featured a presentation of awards to the Executive Governor of Ekiti State Honourable Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji as the best Governor of the year for his forthrightness, elongation of Executive Officers cadres to GL 14 to GL 15

The award was presented by the National President of the NCSU, Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday JB, during the Union’s extraordinary National Delegates Conference held at Green Minds Hotel, Abuja.

The event attracted all the NEC and NAC members as well as Delegates from the 36 states of the Federation including labour leaders, civil servants, and key stakeholders .

Presenting the award, Comrade Adeleye described Governor Oyebanji as a compassionate and responsive leader whose administration has transformed the welfare and dignity of civil servants in Ekiti State through sincerity, dialogue, and consistent support for the workers.

He praised the Governor for implementing worker friendly policies, ensuring prompt payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities while, sustaining industrial peace, and prioritising the welfare of workers and retirees in the state.

According to him, the approval of GL 15 status for Executive officers in the state civil service reflected the Governor’s commitment to fairness, career progression, and professional growth within the public service.

The NCSU President also commended the Ekiti State Head of Service, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, for maintaining stability, cooperation, and professionalism within the civil service, noting that her leadership has contributed immensely to the cordial relationship between government and labour unions in the state.

Labour leaders at the event described Ekiti State as a model for labour relations and civil service administration in Nigeria, stressing that the state has maintained peaceful industrial relations through dialogue, mutual respect, and continuous engagement with workers.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji was represented at the event, by the Ekiti State Head of Service, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, who appreciated the leadership and members of the union for the recognition accorded the Governor .

She stated that the award reflected the confidence workers across Nigeria have in Governor Oyebanji’s leadership and commitment to civil service reforms.

Dr. Olomojobi reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, professionalism, merit based appointments, and transparent labour relations, adding that the Governor consistently encourages negotiations and dialogue on matters affecting workers.

According to her, the Governor remains committed to improving the working conditions of civil servants and ensuring that the public service in Ekiti State remains professional and productive.

Other dignitaries at the event were Comrade Kayode Fatomiluyi, SSA on Labour matters,Pharmacist Olatunde Kolapo,NLC Chairman, Ekiti state, who were equally presented with Awards alongside with the Head of Civil Service of Ekiti State

Others present at the event included but not limited to two Permanent Secretaries, Two Directors and other high ranking Public Servants from Ekiti State.
