The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has solicited the support of the Judiciary in addressing the growing menace of unregistered vehicles and motorcycles across the state.
CP Falade made the appeal on Thursday during a working visit to the Ekiti State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, in his office in Ado-Ekiti.
Addressing the Chief Judge, the Commissioner said the visit was necessary to seek judicial collaboration in enforcing the Inspector-General of Police’s directive on the crackdown of all unregistered vehicles and motorcycles without identification.
He noted that the proliferation of unregistered vehicles and motorcycles, especially outside the state capital, had become worrisome and poses security challenges.
“Though no institution is perfect, with the judiciary’s guidance, Police operations in Ekiti have been successful. I came to Ekiti barely three months ago and have since hit the ground running,” CP Falade said.
The CP also appealed to the Chief Judge to consider establishing mobile courts or increasing the number of sitting days for Magistrates. He explained that the measure would ensure swift prosecution of offenders and prevent the Command from running afoul of the law during enforcement.
He commended the judiciary under Justice Ogunmoye’s leadership for its continued support for police operations in the state.
Responding, the Chief Judge thanked the Commissioner and his entourage for the visit, noting that all stakeholders in the administration of justice share a common goal, the security of lives and property of residents.
Justice Ogunmoye assured the CP of the Judiciary’s support where necessary and promised to look into the requests and proffer appropriate solutions.
Present at the visit were the Command’s Officer-in-Charge of Legal, Mr. M.A. Akala, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, Ekiti State Judiciary Chief Registrar, Adebowale Adeosun, Esq., his Deputy, Lanre Owoleso, Esq. and the Chief Magistrate Administration, among others.
