Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have passed a vote of confidence and endorsed the governor of the state, Biodun Oyebanji for a second term in office ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The 26-member assembly comprising 24 All Progressives Congress (APC) and two Social Democratic Party (SDP) lawmakers unanimously announced the endorsement on Wednesday during the governor’s State of the State Address at the assembly complex as part of activities marking the second anniversary of the Oyebanji-led administration.
The member representing Ikere constituency 1, Babatunde Oke moved the motion for the governor’s endorsement and was seconded by his counterpart from Ido-Osi constituency, Babatunde Fawekun.
The Speaker, Adeoye Aribasoye said that the governor in the last two years has demonstrated uncommon commitment towards the development of the state in line with his six-point shared prosperity agenda.
He explained that the lawmakers being the representative of the people have felt the impact of the programmes and policies of the administration across the state, hence their decision to support him beyond the first term.
Aribasoye called on the people of the state to support the governor in his quest to transform the state, adding that allowing him to continue beyond 2026 would help in consolidating his lofty efforts across major sectors of the economy.
While commending him for his support towards the house in the last two years especially the reconstruction and the remodelling of the assembly complex, the speaker urged the governor to remain resolute and not be distracted in the remaining years in the first tenure in his service to Ekiti people.
Delivering his account of stewardship in the saddle as governor of Ekiti since 2022, Oyebanji noted that his administration has carried out life-impacting projects and programmes in line with the six-point agenda of the administration.
He explained that from infrastructures to education, health, agriculture, governance social welfare, and others, the government in the last twenty four months have given priority to the projects that will add value to the life of the people.
According to Oyebanji, the administration in the last one year has expended over one billion naira on clearing of lands and other supports to farmers across the state towards ensuring massive food production and addressing rising inflation on food items.
He said, “Mr Speaker, I would like to assure you that our commitment to upholding our social contract with Ekiti people remains steadfast and unyielding.
“We are driven by a passionate desire to bring prosperity to Ekiti people in the quickest time possible. We understand the urgency of the development agenda and will do everything within our powers to achieve the vision of our founding fathers.”
He commended President Bola Tinubu for his support towards his administration in the last one year, noting that , ” most of our achievements would have been impossible without his support and encouragement.”
