Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has unveiled Widow And Orphans Hope Project, WAOH, where over 350 indigent widows received empowerment materials and 25 indigent students receive cheques of N100,000 for their scholarship.
The first lady gave the remarks at the Adetiloye Hall in Ado-Ekiti yesterday at the unveiling of the project WAOH, where over 30,000 widows and 2,000 orphans have been registered in the state.
Dr Oyebanji while speaking at the unveiling, said the initiative was meant to make a possible difference in the life of the vulnerable people in the state, meant for possible alleviation.
Ekiti first lady said the project is to assist them to attained self sufficiency is the society, urging the people to bend to the need of the widows and orphans to touch them positively with their means.
She said the project has three categories, active, semi and inactive widows as those who are the beneficiaries.
According to the first lady, the widows would be empowered with materials like sowing machines, harris processing machines, refrigerator, grounding machine, feeding allowance and raw food for the aged widows, among others.
“The tools and support are given to you today to become fishers of men to improved their quality of lives.
” Three hundred and fifty orphans school children have been given school bags with mathematical sets, note books, water bottles, among others before today.
“All the 25 students given N100,000 as scholarship are pursing high degrees in various institutions in Nigeria”.
Dr. Oyebanji, said the project WAOH is not government sponsored but promised her unweaving dedication to the programme, promising that they hope to empower more people two to three times in a year.
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, promised accountability of the project WAOH, saying the project would be accountable with the resources.
He called on the people to adopt one beneficiaries to assist the vulnerable in the society.
