JAMB forecloses registration extension as over 1.5m candidates apply for admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially ruled out any extension for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration, warning that the window for enrolment is rapidly closing.

In a firm directive issued on Tuesday, the Board announced that the sale of mandatory e-PINs will conclude at midnight on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

Candidates who have already purchased their pins will have a final 48-hour grace period to complete their registration at accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, which will shut down for the exercise on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Data released by the Board shows that over 1.5 million candidates have registered as of February 17.

However, JAMB expressed concern over the low daily turnout, noting that registration centres are currently operating at only 30% of their 100,000-candidate daily capacity.

JAMB emphasized that the strict deadline is necessary because the UTME timetable is part of a “nationally coordinated calendar” shared with other examination bodies.

Since the schedule is designed to transition seamlessly into other public exams, there is no available window for an extension.

The Board warned prospective candidates against procrastination, stating it will not entertain appeals once the portal closes. To avoid last-minute technical challenges, JAMB urged all eligible students to obtain their e-PINs immediately and finalize their enrolment at accredited centres before the month ends.
