1.8m Candidates To Write WASSCE As Exams Begin Tuesday

No fewer than 1,814,344 candidates from 22,229 schools have been registered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), to write the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates beginning from Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

The examination will be written between Tuesday and Monday, June 24, 2024.

WAEC’s Acting Director of Communication, Moyosore Adeshina, who stated this in a statement said the examination will be written in seven weeks and six days, adding that WASSCE will be conducted in four WAEC member countries comprising Nigeria, Gambia, Sierra-Leone and Liberia.

The statement added that, “A total of 1,814,344 candidates from 22,229 schools have registered for the examination and the candidature for this year increased by 192,948.

“Candidates would be examined in 76 subjects, made up of 197 papers. Thirty thousand practicing senior secondary school teachers, nominated by various Ministries of Education, will supervise the examination,” the statement added.

WAEC has warned that candidates and examination functionaries who engage in acts of examination malpractice of any kind would be punished upon establishment of culpability by the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC), which is the highest decision-making organ of the Council that sits on examination matters in Nigeria. {Leadership}
