2025 JAMB: FUOYE overtakes UI, ABU, UNN, UNIBEN, others to become varsity of 4th choice

For the umpteenth time, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE),Ekiti State, Nigeria has maintained its meteoric position as university of 4th choice to prospective Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s candidates in this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This was disclosed in Abuja by the JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede at the just concluded JAMB Policy-Meeting between the Board and the universities’ Vice-Chancellors.

According to him, Lagos State University (LASU), University of Lagos and the University of Ilorin beat FUOYE to emerge 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

With LASU 79,000, UNILAG 58,645 and UNILORIN’s 56,734, FUOYE clinched 4th most subscribed university in Nigeria, dusting Premier University, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, University of Benin, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Obafemi Awolowo University and other older universities.

FUOYE with 52,108, has consistently maintained the 4th most-sought after university after it lost its 3rd position in the 2023/2024 admission year.

However, FUOYE attracted 52,108 applicants as contained in an official statistics released by JAMB, placing it ahead of tens of first-generation universities while confirming its position as Nigeria’s fastest-growing and most sought-after university.

Apparently elated at the feat, FUOYE Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Samuel Shittu described the latest ranking as “a well-deserved validation of FUOYE’s relentless pursuit of academic excellence, student-centered policies, and dynamic leadership.”

According to him, FUOYE’s meteoric rise was a reflection of visionary planning and the collective commitment of staff and students alike.

Professor Shittu said: “This is not just a number. It is a proof that FUOYE is fast becoming a first-choice destination for thousands of young Nigerians.

“We are proud of this recognition and it further motivates us to continue raising the bar.”

Meanwhile, the feat attained placed FUOYE behind only LASU 79,000, UNILAG 58,645, UNILORIN’s 56,734 while it ranked higher than other prestigious institutions like UNIZIK, UI, UNN, UNIBEN, OAU and FULAFIA.

As FUOYE secured its place among top five most preferred universities in Nigeria, the institution was already setting its sights even higher.

With strategic expansion in academic programmes, enhanced digital learning capabilities and sustained investment in research and innovation, the university is no doubt poised to become a global academic powerhouse.
