Traditional chieftaincy title holders in Ekiti State have pledged to mobilise one million votes for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The chiefs under the auspices of the Association of Ekiti Traditional Chieftaincy Title Holders made the pledge at a meeting hosted by the Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, Oyetunde Ojo, where members declared support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The association’s chairman, Chief Oluwole Ogunsakin, said that the group would leverage its grassroots network across towns, villages and communities to mobilise eligible voters for the President.

Ogunsakin noted that the one-million-vote target represented the association’s commitment to Tinubu, adding that members would encourage eligible residents to participate peacefully in the electoral process and exercise their voting rights freely.

He also called for the involvement of community chiefs in the proposed state police recruitment process, saying their knowledge of local communities could help strengthen security.

Ogunsakin described insecurity as a major concern in Ekiti, noting that traditional chiefs were closer to residents and better positioned to identify security challenges in their communities, including threats to farmers.

He welcomed ongoing discussions on the establishment of state police and urged the government to consider involving traditional chiefs in screening and recommending credible candidates for recruitment.

Oyetunde Ojo said that no Nigerian President had done what Tinubu had achieved in road infrastructure, describing the scale of road construction under the current administration as unprecedented.

He said that the last time Nigerians witnessed infrastructure development on a comparable scale was during the regime of former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.

Ojo added that the roads being constructed under Tinubu were designed to last between 30 and 40 years.

He also commended the President for what he described as fairness in political appointments across the country’s ethnic groups.

On insecurity, the FHA boss said the situation was gradually improving, citing the ongoing construction of a military barracks in Ikere-Ekiti as an intervention expected to strengthen security and create employment opportunities.

He challenged critics of the Tinubu administration to explain what they would do differently if given the opportunity to govern the country.

Also speaking, former Ekiti State Governor, Segun Oni, urged political stakeholders to unite in support of Tinubu’s second-term ambition, saying the President’s electoral success required collective commitment.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Bimbo Daramola, expressed confidence that Tinubu would receive substantial support in Ekiti in 2027.

Daramola said that the political mobilisation effort was targeting 90 per cent of the votes in the state, describing traditional title holders as an important grassroots constituency.

The event also featured the conferment of a patron title on Oyetunde Ojo in recognition of his contributions to community development, relationship with traditional institutions and philanthropic activities.
