The Agbeyewa Cup Tournament reached its climax on Tuesday October 29, 2024, with an exhilarating grand finale between Government College, Ado and Omuo-Ore High School from Omuo Ekiti.
The highly anticipated match kicked off at 3:45 pm, attracting esteemed dignitaries including the Chairman Ekiti State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports, Hon Idowu Odebunmi and fellow lawmaker,Hon Ayo Adegbite, the Technical Advisor on Sports Development to Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olusola Osetoba, Sports Commission, Sports Development Trust Fund and Ekiti State Football Association as well as top officials from the Ministry of Education.
The final match also had in attendance notable royal fathers such as Oba Onisan of Isan Ekiti, Obaleo of Erimope Ekiti and Olufaki of Ifaki Ekiti as well as former Head of Service in Ekiti, Mr Komolafe, former Finance Commissioner, Dr Dapo Kolawole among several others.
A lone goal was all that Omuo-Ore High School needed to emerge victorious while Ifaki Grammar School claimed the third position.
The winners were full of joy after receiving the cheque of #1milllion , gold medals and gold trophy from the organizers of the prestigious Agbeyewa Cup 2024.
The sum of #500k plus silver medals went to Government College, Ado Ekiti that finished as runners up while Ifaki Grammar School went home with the bronze medals and cash prize of #250k.
With delight, dignitaries including the royal fathers at the occasion took turn to present the gifts and cheques to each of the most outstanding teams as they all applauded the sponsors of the grassroots football championship for the tournament which was described as glamorous from the start till the end.
This spectacular occasion showcased exceptional talents, sportsmanship, and teamwork among Ekiti State future stars who are still building their future through education combined with Sports.
The just concluded second edition of the Agbeyewa Secondary Schools Football Championship was in furtherance of the success that characterized the first edition held in 2023 as the Director of Community Engagement, Agbeyewa Foundation, Alhaji Dauda Lawal (ADL) assured that the tournament will wax stronger on yearly basis.
The just concluded 2024 Agbeyewa Secondary Schools Football Championship which is a replica of the defunct Principals Cup began with over 150 schools across Ekiti State while the final was described by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) as one of the most colourful grand finale held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti in recent time considering the number of customized shirts and caps worn by hundreds of officials including virtually all SWAN members, the beautifully decorated football arena, the quality of gifts shared among the outstanding schools and players as well the handsome prize money for the top three teams. {Sportsgister}
