After much pressure from the National leadership of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, the National Salaries income and Wages Commission has officially released the 40% peculiar allowance circular for implementation.
At the marathon meeting called and personally presided over by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation , Mrs Esther Walson Jack held at conference Hall in her office emphasized the need to close communication gap between management and Labour unions and further form a stronger synergy that will produce results that will not be as a result of collapse in relationships
She opined that Labour Unions have the right to ask while management must equally open its door for conversation in order to build trust and confidence in our collective engagements
The meeting permitted the leadership of the joint National Public Service Negotiating Council led by the National Chairman Benjamin Anto Uyanto mni and the Executive Chairman National Salaries income and Wages Commission Mr Eyo Nta Esq to put all their cards on the table and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation arbitrated.
The National Chairman of JNPSNC Comrade Benjamin Anto Uyanto mni and the Executive Chairman National Salaries income and Wages Commission Mr Eyo Nta commended the Head of Civil Service of the Federation for her timely intervention.
Consequently, an acceptable and implementable circular table was officially presented to the National Chairman of JNPSNC
In an interview with the National Secretary of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga who was part of the team confirmed the development and described the outcome as worthwhile and a good development for the overall benefits of Nigerian workers.
He said further that the effective date of implementation is 1st May ,2026 after two years( July 2024,) of waiting for the 40% peculiar allowance reflecting the 70,000 minimum wage template.
According to Comrade Olowoyo, it is expected that State government should adopt this circular so as to assist Public Servants at the State and Local Governments to enjoy this relief most importantly, at this time when Workers and their dependants are wallowing in abject poverty due to the harsh economic atmosphere
Honestly , it was a serious task , because the National Salaries income and Wages Commission tried hard enough to avoid responsibility in this circumstance but the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation came to the rescue of Nigerian workers. It is a victory indeed!!!
We will recall that the National leadership of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council has earlier on set 21st May for a total showdown in this matter.
However, with the current development, workers may likely sheath their sword by allowing industrial peace in the workplace.
