The Ekiti State government has said that Primary School textbooks to be reviewed once every six years, while the review cycle for Secondary School textbooks had been extended from once every three years to once every four years, subject to the guidelines of the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
The government also reemphasize thatthe ban on graduation ceremonies for pupils and students in Kindergarten, Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools, both public and private, remains in force.
The government spoke in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Bayode Ogunmola. It noted, that the which took effect from the 2025/2026 academic session, was introduced to reduce the financial burden on parents and guardians and curb the social pressure and excesses often associated with such ceremonies.
The Ministry also reminded stakeholders that the government had approved the reuse of textbooks by younger siblings, provided the books remain in good condition, as part of efforts to make education more affordable for families across the state.
It added that the policy on book review remained unchanged, with Primary School textbooks to be reviewed once every six years, while the review cycle for Secondary School textbooks had been extended from once every three years to once every four years, subject to the guidelines of the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
The Ministry stressed that the policies were not subject to negotiation and that there was no plan to reverse them.
It, therefore, directed school proprietors, administrators, parents and other stakeholders to comply fully with the directives, warning that appropriate sanctions would be imposed on violators.
The ministry appreciated the cooperation of stakeholders, reaffirming the government’s commitment to making education more accessible, affordable and beneficial to every child in Ekiti State.
