Recall that pandemonium erupted in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, when suspected gunmen invaded an open-air crusade organized by the Christ Apostolic Church. During the attack, the officiating pastor was killed, while 15 worshippers were abducted and taken to an unknown destination.

The kidnappers had demanded N1 billion ransom for the release of their captors but later reduced the ransom to N50 million. The community allegedly raised and paid N10 million to the kidnappers yet they refused to release the victims.

The victims were released around midnight on Friday and are currently being taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

One of the 15 kidnapped victims died while in captivity, while the remaining survivors are said to be in critical physical and emotional condition.
