The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Delegated Legislation, Rt. Hon. Femi Bamisile, has declared that like many leaders, he is fully in support of the proposed All Progressives Congress’ statewide endorsement being planned for Governor Biodun Oyebanji to recontest in 2026.

The ranking federal lawmaker, said he fully backed the proposal on the premises that it would help the governor to further consolidate the gains of democracy for the people and serve as a veritable platform to unite the ruling party ahead of 2027.

Bamisile gave the revelation, in a statement issued through his Media Office in Abuja, on Saturday.

The former Ekiti Assembly’s speaker spoke in respect of the planned APC leaders’ statewide endorsement for Oyebanji, slated for Monday, July 28, 2025.

Bamisile, while ventilating his opinion on the matter, said this shouldn’t be misconstrued to be act of imposition, saying it was a way of demonstrating love for a governor that has performed superbly well.

He added that other APC interested governorship aspirants can still freely vie for the position in a primary election, but boasted that Oyebanji will automatically clinch the party’s ticket.

Bamisile emphasized that time has come in the country for people to take action that will encourage any performing leader saddled with responsibilities, saying this is a way to build an enduring democracy.

“I fully sanction this endorsement, because other groups including teachers, civil servants, drivers, caterers, artisans, phone repairers, computer sellers, farmers, youth, traders, medical officers and other strata of Ekiti’s society have endorsed this Governor for second term.

“If you look at it critically, these are the set of people that the government represents. They believed Governor Oyebanji has done well and needs encouragement and the only impetus they can give is for him to continue till 2030.

“I see nothing wrong in his party dancing to the pace already set by all Ekiti people and endorse him. This shouldn’t be misinterpreted to be act of imposition: it is not so.

“Whoever has aspiration should not be intimidated. They should feel free to take a plunge. But by all indications, Governor Oyebanji will win any free and fair governorship primary conducted in APC”.

Bamisile appealed to the party to stand united ahead of the 2026 and 2027 elections, for the party to overcome the challenge being posed by the newly consummated coalition party, on the platform of the African Democratic Congress.
