The Senate on Monday witnessed a rowdy session over division of Senators over disagreement as to whether or not the upper chamber should proceed with the screening the Ministerial nominee, Mr Festus Keyamp, the immediate past Minister of State for Labour.
Keyamo who took turn to be screen was already at the podium giving his Biodata when a Senator, Mr Dalingnton Nwokocha (Abia LP) raised a point of order which was seconded by Mr Eyinaya Abaribe Abia, APGA) complaining that Keyamo once decline the summons by both the House of Representatives and the Senate Committees.
The Senate President then puts Nwokocha’s motion into question through voice vote. Those in favour and those against all shouted such that it was difficult for Akpabio to rule.
Subsequently, a chaotic scene ensued as senators were seen leaving their seats and forming groups at the floor of the senate. Repeated shout of order! Order! By the Senate President could not calmed the senators.
Meanwhile, the screening has been temporarily suspended for the Senators to meet as an executive closed door session
