The new cash transfer program targeting fifteen million households to start from October, Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has said.
Edu who announced this development during an interview on Arise TV on Monday, said that the program aims to provide tangible financial support to individuals for starting businesses and enhancing their quality of life.
The Minister added that the Federal Government would collaborate with state governments and local communities in the process of verifying the National Social Register.
According to her, there are currently 15.7 million households, encompassing approximately 62 million individuals, listed in the register. The government intends to ensure that those included in this category still meet the criteria for such interventions.
“The President has approved the verification and expansion of the National Social Register to cover everybody in that bracket,” she said.
