The High Court of Justice in Ogbomoso, on Thursday, 7th of September, 2023 issued an interim order to restrain the Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde and the Kingmakers in Ogbomoso from conducting further processes to install Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the next Soun of Ogbomoso.
Makinde who had earlier announced Olaoye as the approved Soun-elect, together with the Kingmakers, has failed to abide by the mandatory court injunction already filed before the Court, which restrains and suspends any selection and appointment of the Soun until the matter is decided upon.
The matter is fixed for 3rd of October, 2023.
The presiding judge, Justice K.A Adedokun, directed that the motion on notice of the Interim Order be treated as urgent and that a copy of the order be immediately served on the Governor of Oyo State, the Hon. Attorney General of Oyo State, the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ogbomoso North Local Government, Ogbomoso North Traditional Council, and all members of the Kingmaker Council, including Pastor Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, himself.
The interim order was issued to restrict the Governor and the Kingmakers or other officials from issuing a Certificate of Installation to Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, or presenting any instrument of office to him, pending the hearing of the matter and the final determination of the mandatory injunction already filed before the court.
Meanwhile, the matter has been adjourned to the 12th of September 2023 for hearing of the application.
