A veteran Journalist and High Chief in Ilawe Ekiti in Ekiti State, Chief Ajibade Olubunmi, has petitioned Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Eribo, over an alleged assassination  attempt on his life.

Chief Ajibade, who is the  Odofin of Irorin quarter, in Ilawe-Ekiti,  and the Media Adviser to the  Alawe of Ilawe of Ekiti, alleged that three identified  attackers threatening his life dangerous weapons.

According to the petition, High Chief Olubunmi alleged that all efforts to arrest the suspects by the officers of the Ilawe Police Station proved abortive as they enjoyed the shield of a prominent member of the Ororin family.

Explaining further on the petition to newsmen,  Chief Ajibade said “On Saturday, 15th February, 2025 I was presiding over our enlarged family (Aderuku House) meeting inside Owa Oruku hall in Irorin quarter, Ilawe Ekiti,  when suddenly three wild looking hefty men from Ororin house who are not members of our family rushed inside our family hall facing me directly, threatening me, pointing cudgels and dangerous weapons cursing me and at the same time, one of them was seen pulling out a pistol to shoot me.

“When I stood up,  I saw another group surrounding the hall. This was around 6 pm.

“The intervention of members of our family prevented my being shot. The police was called in and three policemen on patrol came but the three attackers ran away with other members.

“The police traced them to their hideout but  claimed that a prominent member of Ororin family prevented them from being dragged to the police station.

The veteran Journalist noted that the Ilawe-Ekiti Divisional Police Officer, the Irorin promised to bring the culprits to the police station the next day which is Sunday, 16th March, but till now the culprits have not been arrested and the man, Ororin who assured the police failed to bring them.

“The Ilawe-Ekiti police know them because they saw them.  Kindly intervene before these people carry out their dastardly mission”

Chief Ajibade,  urged the police to save his soul as the concerned people were still moving freely in the community, evading police arrest and boasting within the quarter that nothing will happen to them.

End.
