From Kayemo News
The Executive Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB), Prof. Femi Akinwumi has urged parents and guardians to register and enroll their children of school age in public primary schools.
Prof. Akinwumi made this appeal at Okesa market in Ado Ekiti during a one-day advocacy and sensitization enrollment drive campaign aimed at improving enrolment into Government owned schools in the State.
Akinwumi stated that the enrolment drive by SUBEB which is in conjunction with Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) aligns with the commission’s policy to improve and boost basic education delivery in the country.
The SUBEB boss said that the main aim of the campaign is the total eradication or drastic reduction in cases of Out-Of-School Children (OOSC) phenomenon in the State and the nation at large.
He noted that the Governor Oyebanji led administration has put machinery in place to combat OOSC and SUBEB has been given a marching order to make use of all the tools provided to ensure an increase in access to basic education thereby reducing the OOSC in the State.
According to him, the campaign, which aims to boost enrollment figures in public primary schools across the state, is part of SUBEB’s efforts to improve the overall quality of education in Ekiti.
” We are excited to embark on this enrollment drive campaign, which is a crucial step towards achieving our goal of providing quality education to all children in Ekiti State,”
“Ekiti State is committed to ensuring that every child in the state has access to free and compulsory basic education”
“We urge parents and guardians to take advantage of this opportunity and enroll their children in school, starting from September 2025″
Akinwumi noted that the enrollment drive campaign is part of Governor Oyebanji’s administrations effort to improve access to basic education and reduce the number of out-of-school children in Ekiti State.
He mentioned that the state government has invested in improving school infrastructure by renovating and constructing new buildings to ensure a conducive teaching/learning environment, recruiting and posting qualified teachers to schools, providing training in line with global best practices and support to teachers to boost their morale.
The Chairman said that recently, the State Government embarked on renovation of school buildings, construction of new ones, construction of perimeter fences, provision of furniture, provision of computers and tablets equipped with the latest learning aiding software for the use of the pupils.
Prof. Akinwumi also stated that the State government would soon begin the construction of 30 new basic education schools to accommodate and decongest overpopulated schools in communities across the state and plans are being made to ensure parents whose children attend government owned schools are reimbursed.
“Education is free and compulsory in Ekiti. The Governor Oyebanji led administration has put a lot in place to ensure conducive teaching/learning environment for education. Basic Education is from Early Childhood Care and Development Education (ECCDE) , through Primary Education and to Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3). So we appeal to our parents and guardians to take advantage of this opportunity”.
Speaking at the campaign, the Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Hajiya Aisha Garba who was represented by the Ekiti State Zonal Coordinator, Mr Tokunbo Olajubu said that UBEC under her leadership would always prioritise increasing access to basic education, improving quality of infrastructure and creating safe learning environments across the nation.
Hajiya Garba stated that the enrollment drive campaign is a crucial step towards achieving the goal of providing quality education to all children in Nigeria.
She also said that UBEC is committed to working with all education stakeholders, especially SUBEBs to ensure the success of the campaign as it is believed that education serves as the key to unlocking the potential of children and building a brighter future.
