A ranking member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Bamisile, has advised his constituents, particularly those at the border posts to be more security conscious and cooperate with the security agencies to make Ekiti safe..
Bamisile said the attack at Eruku, in Kwara State, a border post between Ekiti and Kwara called for residents of the state to work with Governor Biodun Oyebanji and security chiefs to ward off any attack that could lead to killing or kidnapping of innocent souls.
Bamisile gave the advice in a statement issued through his Media Office in Abuja and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti, on Friday.
Bamisile, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Delegated Legislation, said the Eruku’s proximity and the fact that the town had a long-standing socio cultural bond with Ekiti, pointed to the fact that the residents must be on alert to be able to block the criminal elements from entering the state.
Particularly, Bamisile advised his constituents at the border posts of Ekiti East and Emure Local Governments to be more circumspect about the influx of individuals through their towns.
“Omuo Ekiti shares boundary with Kogi while Emure Ekiti shares boundary with Ondo State. These are my main concerns , because I want my people to be secured and safe wherever they may be.
“Their nearness to these two states make it expedient for them to be more security conscious. They can’t afford to be lukewarm and allow infiltration before start rising to the current dreadful and frightening situation”, he warned.
Bamisile commended Governor Oyebanji for promptly alerting the security chiefs to the danger posed by Eruku attack, saying all Ekiti residents must join the fray to make Ekiti safe at this moment of trial.
“I was happy to learn that Governor Oyebanji cut short his vacation to rally the security chiefs against those who may want to make Ekiti unsafe. This confirms that our leadership were also sensing danger the way I feel.
“But I believe that with all of us working together on this matter, nobody, no matter how criminally sophisticated, will be able to Infiltrate our ranks or operate in Ekiti without being caught.
“However, this will require all of us having the expected reflex and intuition to report any suspicious movement to the police or military for swift action”, he stated.
