From Kayemo News

The management of Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria has told a dismissed member of staff of the university, Mr. Saka Odunjo why he was not competent to initiate a petition against the university, describing such petition as lacking in merit.

This was contained in singed by the spokesman of the university, Mr Foluso Ogunmodede and made available to newsmen in Ado- Ekiti.

Besides, the university said allegations raised in the alleged petition were not only a ruse but a wild goose chase that would not hold water as the university’s account was not only up-to-date but intact as both external and internal auditors had given it a clean bill of health.

Also, the management dismissed with a wave of hand the petition allegedly fired to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) by the dismissed member of staff, Mr. Saka Odunjo, describing it as a worthless petition, lacking in merit.

The university management said that Saka Odunjo, who authored the alleged petition lacked the required competence to initiate any petition as he was no longer a member of staff, having been dismissed from the university in February on the grounds of serious misconduct.

Saka Odunjo was in February found guilty of serious misconduct by a competent committee set up by the university and had since ceased to be a member of staff following his dismissal on the grounds of serious misconduct.

Saka Odunjo, who was dismissed from FUOYE for serious misconduct in February this year initiated the frivolous petition, asking the EFCC and the ICPC to probe an alleged “₦342million fraud, VC Appointments At Federal University Oye-Ekiti.”

Besides, Saka Odunjo specifically said “the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate alleged large-scale corruption, financial mismanagement, and abuse of office at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), involving the Vice Chancellor, Prof Abayomi Sunday Fasina, and top officials of the institution.”

This, the management in a statement described the allegations as not only unfounded but spurious and an attempt to smear the name of the university and that of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, saying that Saka Odunjo was on a wild goose chase.

His petition lacks merit and it will collapse like a pack of cards, the university added.

It said that there was no case of “abuse of office, large-scale corruption and financial mismanagement in the university as being touted by Saka Odunjo.

Besides, the university management said Saka Odunjo, who was dismissed from the university for serious misconduct in February was not competent to initiate such petition either on behalf of himself or anyone as he was no longer a member of staff for him to initiate the petition.

In the statement, the university management said Saka Odunjo was not qualified to report the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina or any Principal Officers of the university to the EFCC and the ICPC as he has no locus standi, being a dismissed member of staff of the university.

According to the statement, Saka Odunjo lacked the required competence to report the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina to any higher authorities including the Minister of Education over a perceived grievance as Saka Odunjo had ceased to be a member of staff of FUOYE.

Saka Odunjo, who was still aggrieved that the university found him guilty for serious misconduct and dismissed him from the university was nothing but a rampaging snake whose head was cut off, suddenly looking for who to devour.

As a rampaging snake, Saka was merely fighting for relevance, using FUOYE as a guinea pig to launch unscrupulous attacks on FUOYE in connivance with Sahara Reporters.

It reads: “Who is Saka Odunjo to file a petition against the Vice-Chancellor and other principal officers of the university to the EFCC and the ICPC?

His petition lacks requisite competence and it’s dead on arrival as Saka Odunjo is no longer a member of staff of FUOYE and can’t initiate such petition.

“He has been dismissed from the university on the grounds of serious misconduct in February 2025.

“He is looking for relevance at all cause.

“It is regrettable that Saka Odunjo in its desperation to demean FUOYE will shamelessly file an obvious fabrications to the EFCC and the ICPC.
Also, Sahara Reporters, in its obsession with FUOYE Sahara Reporters will sacrifice even the most basic tenets of journalism and depend on a soon to be repatriated dismissed staff of the institution.”

Meanwhile, the university management has again expressed its confidence in the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of FUOYE Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba’s leadership and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, who has since resumed office from his accumulated research leave.

In its obsession with FUOYE Sahara Reporters will sacrifice even the most basic tenets of journalism and depend on a soon to be repatriated dismissed staff of the institution.

“We believe in our chairman, Distinguished Senator and revered Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, the statement added.
