IBEDC, BEDC unbundle in Ekiti, Ondo States

From Kayemo News
Following a recent directive by the Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), both the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has now  unbundled in Ekiti State while the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has unbundled in both Ekiti State and Ondo State
A statement obtained by Kayemo News signed by the Ekiti State Commissioner for Utility, Prof Bolaji Aluko,
in Ekiti State, IBEDC was incorporated on May 19, 2024 with the Name: Ekiti Electricity  Distribution Company Limited and with CAC Registration number RC 7535457.
On the other hand, the BEDC was incorporated in Ekiti State on June 28, 2024 under the Name:  BEDC Electricity Ekiti Limited with the
CAC Registration RC 7629775.
However, in Ondo State, BEDC incorporated June 28, 2024 with the Name:  BEDC Electricity Ekiti Limited with CAC Registration  RC7629774
According to the commissioner, upon application, they would now be licensed for operation within Ekiti  State.
“Ekiti Electricity Regulatory Bureau will license the company and we can revoke the license if they are not performing up to expectation.
” Initially all DisCos were being licensed by NERC, which is the Federal Government Agency, and the State Government doesn’t have power over them.
” But immediately the former president General Buhari took electricity from exclusive lists to concurrence lists, that gives the State Government the opportunity to takeover electricity situation within their domain.
” There will be improvements on electricity, Tariff will be monitored and other dilapidated infrastructure will be revitalized.
“The citizens can hold the State Government responsible for incessant supply.  Investors on Power Electricity will come and even the  monopoly of the DisCos can be broken because the state will be in charge.”
