Man in court over threat to set wife, children ablaze in Ekiti

Ekiti State police command have arraigned one Afolabi Samuel, 55, at the Chief Magistrate court sitting in Ado-Ekiti over an alleged threat to kill his wife and children.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, said the defendants on June 22 at about 09:00 hours at Olokuta Matthew area in Ado-Ekiti, did threaten to kill his wife and children by setting them ablaze with petrol which he bought and the matches he kept by his side.

Inspector Oriyomi pointed out that the defendants on the same date, time and place in the Magisterial District did conduct himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.

The prosecutor said the offence committed is punishable under Section 69, 181(d) Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Joy Raphael, urged the court to admit his client to bail, saying he will not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till July 22 for hearing. The defendants was called upon to be of good behaviour before the next hearing date.
