The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has threatened to institute legal action against two individuals over claims that he is an indigene of Ekiti State.
Yayi, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, gave Hon Abayomi Hunye, a suspended APC member from Tube, Ipokia Local Government Area, and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party 24 hours to provide evidence backing their claims or face lawsuits.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by his media adviser, Kayode Odunaro, Hunye and Marcus-Bello made the claims during separate interviews on Channels Television programmes.
Odunaro said the two individuals claimed Adeola was an Ekiti State indigene without providing evidence to support the allegation.
Adeola described the claims as false and libellous, demanding that the two individuals produce evidence of his state of origin within 24 hours.
“I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof. One falsely claimed on TV that I am from Ekiti and when asked where exactly in Ekiti went moronically blank and could not provide an answer. The other one was lying about the locations of the graves of my parents as if she was part of the undertakers at the burial all in a futile effort to justify an unsustainable falsehood. Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits ” the senator stated.
The senator’s threat comes amid renewed controversy over his ancestral origin ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
PUNCH Online had reported that traditional councils in Kemta, Ogun State, had affirmed Adeola’s ancestral ties to the community.
The Oluwo of Kemta and Baaye of Egbaland, Chief Abayomi Rotimi, made the declaration at a press conference held at the Ile Ogboni of Kemta.
Rotimi said Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, remained a son of the community regardless of political differences among residents.
“Yayi is one of us. He is our son. We have different political parties here. We have PDP, APC, Accord and others. Whoever is our son is our son, and whoever comes here for us to help, we accept him.
“Whoever wants to vote should vote for whomever he wants. But you cannot bring politics into this house,” he said.
He said politics should not be allowed to interfere with the affairs of the traditional institution.
Rotimi also dismissed reports circulating on social media that the Ile Ogboni of Kemta had been shut because of Adeola’s relationship with the community.
He described the reports as false and politically motivated and challenged those behind the claims to visit the premises and verify the situation.
The statement by Adeola’s media adviser said the allegation about the senator’s alleged Ekiti origin had previously been used as a political campaign against his emergence as the senator representing Ogun West.
It added that the claim had resurfaced amid what it described as Adeola’s “seemingly unstoppable move” towards the 2027 governorship election. {The Punch}
