RE: “ADELEKE: VICTORY AFTER VICTORY” BY SUYI AYODELE ….A Response to the Misrepresentation of the Ekiti Election

We read with deep disappointment the article _“Adeleke: Victory After Victory”_ by Suyi Ayodele published in the _Law and Society_ Magazine.

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, it is unacceptable for a writer to reduce the political maturity of an entire people to a cheap stereotype. The reference to Ekiti voters being swayed by “spaghetti and ₦3000” is not just false. It is an insult. It spits on the dignity, intelligence, and political consciousness that Ekiti people are known for across Nigeria.

Ekiti people do not vote because of handouts. They vote because of performance. They vote because of credibility. They vote because of trust. In this last election, they looked at what the APC government had done, and they chose to reward continuity and good governance. That is the truth Mr. Ayodele conveniently ignored.

The APC victory in Ekiti was not luck. It was not a fluke. It was earned. For months, our party went to every ward, spoke to every stakeholder, and built a structure that touched every community. Governor Biodun Oyebanji earned the confidence of the people through visible projects, through respect for workers, and through governance that carried everyone along. The people responded with their votes.

And to then suggest that the over 319,000 votes given to Governor Oyebanji do not reflect the effort put in is to deliberately misread the facts. The spread across all 16 local governments, the margin of victory, and the enthusiasm on election day all tell one story: Ekiti people trust this government, and they said so with their votes.

Mr. Ayodele’s article is a clear case of misrepresentation and misinformation. It does not reflect what happened in Ekiti. It does not respect the voters. And it does no good to journalism.

We urge writers and media practitioners to do better. Verify your facts. Respect the electorate. Do not reduce hard-earned democratic victories to baseless narratives.

The people of Ekiti voted with their conscience. The APC won on merit. And that victory stands, no matter how anyone tries to downplay it.
