Senate constitutes standing committees, proceeds on seven weeks recess

The Senate on Monday night announced the composition of its standing committees to oversight various ministries, departments and agencies.
This was just as it proceeded on six weeks recess to resume on the 26th of September, 2023.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced this at the end of plenary session further information lawmakers that “in order to enable you enjoy your holidays, a token has been sent to your various accounts”.
He however withdrew the statement and replaced it immediately with another information which stated that “Distinguished Senators, in order for you to enjoy your holidays, the Senate President has send some prayer points to your mail boxes”.
Among the committees announced yesterday are the water resources Committee headed by former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari just as the former Sokoto State Governor is to head the housing committee.
Bsyesa state former governor Seriske Dickson heads the Senate Committee on Ecology while senator Eyinnaya Abaribe takes charge of the power Committee.
Senator Hamid Malam is in charge of the committee on Police affairs while Aliu Wamako heads the committee on Local and foreign debt.
The former Senate majority leader, Yahaya Abdullahi is to take charge in the committee of national planning and and economic affairs just as Senator Yemi Adaramodu will head the committee of Youths and Sports in addition to his committee on Media and Public Affairs.
Senator Ireti Kingibe is now the chairman of Women affairs committee while the committee on interparliamentary affairs has senator Danjuma Goje as its chairman.
Former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu is the chairman of the committee on privatisation while senator Mustapha Salihu heads the committee on agriculture.
Senator Sani Wasiu is the chairman of the committee on marine transport while senator Asukuo E.is the chairman of the committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) affairs
Also yesterday, Senator Aliu Wadada became the chairman of the committee on public accounts just as Aminu Abbas was named as the chairman of the committee on Science and Technology.
