Setting the record straight on FUOYE Radiography Dept

From Kayemo News

Why has Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) refused to update the world on various academic and infrastructure heights Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria has attained in recent times?

But because it’s its stock in trade to dish out spurious lies because it’s FUOYE. Why has FIJ not beam its searchlight on other universities if it is demonstrating its corporate responsibility?

Why is FIJ awashing media space with spurious lies on FUOYE?

A statement by the FUOYE Public Relations Officer, Mr Foluso Ogunmodede which was obtained by Kayemo News yesterday wondered why of all the academic and infrastructure giants FUOYE has made, none interest FIJ save a series of lies from the pit of hell.

Nonetheless, it has become FIJ’s stock in trade to always pick on FUOYE whenever it is convenient to spew out lies and while trying to cover up its lies with more lies. In this case, there is no exception to its lies. FIJ must always lie to suit its paymaster.

As for us, we would put the record straight by offering our own side of the story.

This is our story: Contrary to FIJ’s spurious lies that Radiography has not secured Radiograhers Registration Board of Nigeria’s accreditation, the universities’ regulator — National Universities Commission (NUC) approved commencement of Radiography programme in FUOYE.

We are bold to say that NUC resource verification team came to FUOYE in December 2020 to assess the level of our preparedness for Radiography and Radiation Science with a view to making the department to takeoff.

Before the NUC visitation, the university had employed many Radiography lecturers as
NUC approved commencement of Radiography in FUOYE in 2021.

In view of this, the University which had so much interest in the Radiography programme began to reinvigorate the department, strengthening it with capable hands including lecturers.

As against lies FIJ published, currently, the Department of Radiography has more than enough qualified lecturers.

On accreditation:
The department was presented for NUC Accreditation in November 2024 and got Interim Accreditation.

However, the university was preparing for the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria’s Accreditation visit when a letter from the NUC on the directive of Federal Ministry of Education to universities in Nigeria barred some professional bodies from Accrediting Programmes in the university.

It would interest you that Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria was among the barred professional bodies not only in FUOYE but across Nigerian universities where Radiography is being taught.

In order words, this barring of professional accreditation was not peculiar to FUOYE and why FIJ is making a mole out of the mountain about it, spewing lies beats one’s imagination.

Meanwhile, this singular directive from the NUC, however, prevented FUOYE, from asking Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria to come for visitational accreditation. But this was put on hold following the NUC’s directive pending when the coast for its professional accreditation by the Radiograhers Registration Board of Nigeria.

Already, our programme is certified by NUC which is the only body recognized by the government to regulate university education in Nigeria.

Also, the issue of exorbitant fees raised by FIJ is bizarre and out of place as nobody charged exorbitant fees in the FUOYE’s department of Radiography.

So, for the parents and guardians, FIJ lied just as we assured our students that Radiography Department currently holds interim accreditation, which permits the programme to continue training and graduating qualified students.

This status remains valid until the next accreditation visit scheduled to take place within the next two years.

Also, it is important to note that programme accreditation by professional regulatory bodies has been suspended by the Federal Government for certain disciplines, including Radiography.

This suspension, however, does not affect the quality of training or the validity of students’ certificates in any way.
