Palpable tension has enveloped various states in the country, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it has established directorate to monitor inflow and outflow of state government funds as part of efforts to prevent corruption and financial crimes.
Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyode, disclosed this while delivering special lecture to mark 30th anniversary of Zamfara State in Gusau.
He said EFCC was shifting towards preventing financial crimes rather than focusing solely on prosecuting offenders after public funds had been misappropriated.
According to him, newly established directorate will monitor state government finances to prevent diversion and embezzlement of public resources.
Olukoyode also disclosed that EFCC officials had been included in meetings of Federation Account Allocation Committee, FAAC, to monitor allocations to state governments.
He said move was aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in management and expenditure of public funds.
Special lecture, organised as part of Zamfara State’s 30th anniversary celebrations, provided opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on state’s achievements and challenges over past three decades and discuss its future.
Lecture focused on accountability, security and sustainable development.
