The National leadership has called out the Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of the Economy to invite the National leadership of Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council for an urgent meeting to address critical outstanding workers welfare or see the wrath of Nigerian workers.

This was contained in a letter addressed to the Minister of Finance Mr Taiwo Oyedele over insensitive postures of the Federal Government to the payment of two months outstanding arrears of Wage Award and implementation of 40% peculiar allowance to Nigerian workers.

In a letter to the Honourable Minister of Finance entitled
“REQUEST FOR AN *URGENT* MEETING WITH THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF FINANCE AND COORDINATING MINISTER OF THE NATIONAL ECONOMY” dated 31st July,2026 referenced JNPSNC) COR VOL 1/ 26 and was duly signed by both the JNPSNC National Chairman Comrade Benjamin Anto Uyanto mni and the National Secretary Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga

The National leadership of JNPSNC lamented that two different letters have been dispatched to the office of the Honourable Minister, with disdain, the Minister ignored the National with ignoble silence.

It is on the strength of the above that the National leadership “found it very expedient to remind your esteemed person that the National leadership has written two different letters and submitted to your office; congratulating you on your recent appointment as the Honourable Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of Economy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and equally stating outstanding issues affecting Nigeria workers which fall within the purview of your respected office.”

“The first letter was dated 5th May, 2026 referenced JNPSNC/GEN/COR/VOL.1/180 entitled PAYMENT OF OUTSTANDING TWO MONTHS AWARD TO FEDERAL PUBLIC SERVANTS

Equally, the second letter was dated 9th July, 2026 referenced JNPSNC/GEN/COR/VOL.1/209 entitled REQUEST FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF 40% PECULIAR ALLOWANCE SEQUEL TO THE CIRCULAR ISSUED BY EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN SALARIES, INCOME AND WAGES COMMISSION, WHICH IMPLEMENTATION WAS SUPPOSED TO COMMENCE IN 1ST MAY 2026 AND PAYMENT OF OUTSTANDING TWO MONTHS AWARD TO ” FEDERAL PUBLIC SERVANTS find attached annex (1-iv for ease of reference:)”

The letter stated that “to the surprise of the National leadership, none of the letters was responded to, let alone, addressing the sensitive issues raised therein in the letters” .

For the purpose of clarity; two issues were presented by the National leadership of the Union for your quick attention, the issues are:

A. The implementation of 40% peculiar allowance premised on the circular issued by the National income Salaries and Wages Commission and duly signed by the by the immediate past Executive Chairman of the commission Eyon Nta Esq with effect from 1st May, 2026.

B. The final and full payment of Two months outstanding payment of Wage Award representing the months March and April 2026, when the money would have been paid alongside the salaries of the referred two months (I.e March and April 2026).

The attached two different letters earlier submitted to your office captured the synopsis of the expectations of Nigeria Public Servants.

Arising from the above, the National leadership is hereby requesting for an urgent critical meeting with the Honourable Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of National economy as stated below:

*on or before Date: Tuesday 11th August, 2026*

*Venue: at the Honourable Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of Economy or any other preferred venue*

*Time: 10:00 am*

It is the expectation of the National leadership that this meeting will help to address the above stated critical and urgent outstanding issues in order prevent palpable disquietedness and the brewing industrial crisis

*It is informative to add that , the entire Public Servants have viewed the silence of the Honourable Minister of Finance, since his resumption as Minister of Finance, as a surreptitious way of compromising the necessary essence of directing the Accountant General of the Federation to the effect of the full payment of two months outstanding of Wage Award and the implementation of circular on 40% peculiar allowance effective 1st May, 2026*

” *This request should be seen as a proactive approach from the National leadership to avert drastic actions from workers due to your insensitive silence to our two previous letters* .”

The letter stated that all relevant government officials as well as Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC)have been duly informed of possible drastic actions if nothing tangible is done to address the outstanding issues raised in the letter.
