The governor of Osun State Governor and candidate of Accord, Ademola Adeleke has been declared winner of the Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The Presiding officer of INEC and Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Professor Lekan Ogunwole announced the winner of the election in the early hours of Sunday.
In the results announced, Governor Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his challenger and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Oyebamiji who scored 444,815 votes and the Najeem Salam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 17,180 votes to place distant third.
Out of the 30 Local Government Areas, Adeleke emerged victorious in 19, while Oyebamiji of the APC clinched 11 LGAs.
Adeleke recorded decisive victories in several of his strongholds. In Ede North, he secured 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283, while in Ede South, he polled 26,188 votes compared with the APC candidate’s 6,219.
In Osogbo, the state capital, Adeleke won 36,480 votes, while Oyebamiji scored 30,474.
The incumbent governor also prevailed in Ife East with 27,201 votes against 18,600; Iwo, 27,085 against 19,660; Egbedore, 19,278 against 11,194; and Oriade, 21,343 against 14,863.
Oyebamiji, however, won in 11 local government areas, including Irewole, where he polled 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934.
The APC candidate also secured victories in Boripe, Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Ife South, Ilesa East, Irepodun, Isokan, Obokun, Ola-Oluwa and Olorunda.
