A ranking member of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Bamisile, has commended Prof Nentawe Yilwatda-led National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress for not wavering on the decision to adopt consensus to select the governorship candidate of the party in Ekiti State.
The former speaker specifically appreciated the NWC for defending the constitution of the party and refused to be swayed by unnecessary public outcries that consensus shouldn’t be adopted to pick Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the candidate.
Bamisile gave the commendation in a statement issued by his media Office in Abuja, on Sunday.
The Chairman, House Committee on Delegated Legislation, appreciated the party for maintaining peace during the Saturday’s Congress to elect 885 Delegates across the 177 wards that will ratify Governor Oyebanji’s candidacy at the primary of October 27.
The lawmaker representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency II, appealed to members not to perceive those opposed to consensus as fifth columnists, saying the matter should be treated as a family affair, as expected in an ideal political situation.
Following alleged threat by some people to resort to mitigation over the primary, he warned the aggrieved against demonstrating any disloyal or anti party conduct that could derail the primary and plunge the party into unwarranted crisis.
“Let me salute our party leaders and members for the peaceful conduct of the delegate Congress. The coast is now clear for the ratification of Governor Oyebanji as our candidate. We must be steadfast at this critical stage of our political journey.
“I know that some members might be adversely affected by the action taken by our NWC. What they did was to protect the constitution. When it comes to political and decision taking, the party is supreme.
“Whoever felt aggrieved must explore the internal mechanism in seeking resolution. They shouldn’t exhibit any action that could warrant any punitive measure being taken against them.
“This party is our party, we must protect and strengthen it. Someone like me had been aggrieved in the past, but I put the interest of the party first. This is the beauty of democracy.
“But resort to anti party measures or actions may trigger punitive actions being taken against any aggrieved. The party is supreme and this must be allowed to stand”, Bamisile said.
