Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in conjunction with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) have bowed to pressure and suspended the two months outages for Ekiti and Ondo.
Recall that the Ekiti State Government on Sunday rejected the planned outage of electricity for twenty-three days out of the two months of July and August.
The BEDC had in a public notice aired both through radio gingles and other social, announced that it was embarking on the outages between July and August.
The government stated this in a letter written by Professor Mobolaji Aluko, the commissioner for public utility, to the MD/CEO, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Abuja, the MD/CEO, Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Benin-City and the Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Company (NERC), Abuja
dated June 30, 2024.
Aluko alleged in the letter that there was no direct notification/communication to to the state government about BEDC planned to disrupt electricity circulation.
However in another public notice made available to Kayemo News, the TCN said: “Due to system stability and security, the management of TCN has suspended the outage on Osogbo/Akure 132kV line previously scheduled for 1st July to 31st August, 2024 till further notice. Inconvenience(s) regretted.”
