FUOYE partners Beeg Energy NG Ltd to tackle energy, climate challenges

Apparently to stem the tide of acute power supply on campus, the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria has collaborated with an indigenous energy-tech firm, Beeg Energy NG Ltd. with a view to pioneering clean energy and carbon market solutions.

However, FUOYE and the firm, Beeg Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) so as to boost carbon market solutions on campus.

Although the MoU underscored the seriousness of the challenge at hand, the management said it was a new dawn as the university’s energy challenge would soon become a thing of the past.

Both FUOYE and the Beeg Energy’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Leo-Adegun Favour signed the MoU to begin a new phase of uninterrupted electricity supply on campus.

At the MoU ceremony were the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, ably represented by the university Registrar, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, immediate past pioneer Provost College of Medicine, Professor Patrick Adegun, FUOYE’s Director of Distance Learning, Professor Abiodun Ajiboye and the university Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede.

Meanwhile, the partnership would mark a milestone in FUOYE’s sustainability journey while opening the door for deployment of a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) with a view to enhancing electricity supply and reliability on campus.

Specifically, Beeg Energy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Leo-Adegun Favour said the partnership would open up “quantification and reduction of FUOYE’s carbon emissions to position the university within the global carbon credit market.”

He went on: “It would also serve as a platform for students and researchers to engage in hands-on work at the intersection of energy, climate change, and technology.

“By choosing to work with a home-grown start-up, FUOYE reaffirms its belief that indigenous innovation is key to solving Nigeria’s energy and climate challenges.

“This MoU signals not just a partnership, but a commitment to practical solutions—a recognition that the future of education, research, and national development depends on clean, reliable, and sustainable energy.”
