The Afe Babalola University Multi-System Hospital, AMSH), Ado-Ekiti says it entered into the partnership with a leading Indian Hospital, on varied high-profile health issues, including erectile malfunctioning and fertility problem, kidney transplant, renal failure, that have led to a surge by patients, on the tertiary health facility, of late.
Chief Medical Director of the ABUAD Multi-System Hospital, Prof. Kolawole Ogundipe, made this known yesterday while briefing heads of media outfits in the state, at the hospital’s headquarters, located within the university, in Ado-Ekiti.
He said the two-year partnership, with India’s Marengo Asia Healthcare, in 2024, aimed at expanding kidney transplant services in Nigeria, among several other topical health challenges, had opened, both the ears and eyes of patients, hitherto in state of disillusionment, on how to get out of their crisis.
Among others, he said the partnership, had raised the awareness, as well as the consciousness of many Nigerians, on the need to seek advanced healthcare locally, and thus ,reduce medical tourism.
Said he, ” We are pleased to announce that the centre is receiving increasing requests from clients, which are being diligently followed up by our expert fertility solutions, as foreign partnership on kidney transplant, others continue .
” Also, our fertility centre has recorded notable achievements, in providing assisted reproductive services, including Vitro fertilization”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), late in 2024, entered into a two-year partnership with Marengo Asia Healthcare Private Limited (AMSH), a top healthcare provider in India.
The partnership, was aimed at expanding kidney transplant services in Nigeria, among other serious health risks, as part of founder of the Institution, Afe Babalola’s determination to help needy Nigerians, curb medical tourism, at high expenses.
The agreement therefore, marked a significant step, towards providing advanced healthcare solutions, within the country, and at low cost.
Ogundipe highlighted that the collaboration would allow ABUAD to deliver life-saving care, and specialised treatments, locally.
This development, he noted, would reduce the need for Nigerians to travel abroad for medical care.
The CMD explained that the partnership would also elevate the hospital’s achievements in areas of renal care, and introduce innovative procedures.
” The collaboration with Marengo Asia Hospital is intended to include advanced services in areas, such as Endourology, providing minimally invasive treatments, for complex urological conditions, as well as penile implants for erectile dysfunction.
” As you can see, this progress, automatically positions AMSH as an emerging destination for fertility treatment in Nigeria.
“Again, before now, our hospital was conducting an average of 10 dialysis sessions per month initially, but we now perform over 400 sessions, monthly, thereby demonstrating our growth and capacity,” he said.
Besides, he said the partnership had also been supporting Laparoscopic, and advanced surgical procedures, covering a wide range of invasive surgeries for various health conditions.
He said ABUAD Multi-System Hospital, which successfully conducted its first kidney transplant in October 2021, had now enhanced its transplant programme, with the new collaboration.
“This collaboration is a significant milestone, ensuring that patients, who previously had to travel abroad for kidney transplants, can now access the same service, right here, on the soil of the Nigerian nation, at minimal costs.
” This partnership is a monumental step forward, allowing us to offer life-saving care without the need for patients to seek treatment abroad,” Ogundipe said .
Ogundipe stressed that in line with Afe Babalola’s requests, AMSH would also continue to offer free ambulance services, and free ante-natal, as well as free post-natal services to pregnant mothers and children.
Dr. Rajiv Sood, head of Urology and Renal Transplant, at Marengo Asia Hospital, commended ABUAD founder, Afe Babalola for extending his humanitarian and philanthropic gestures to the needy Nigerians with health challenges, and for even dating to invest huge fortunes, in establishing the hospital.
According to him, the hospital, with it’s array of sophisticated modern equipments, has the capacity to meet diverse health needs of people of Nigerians, and beyond.
He also highlighted ABUAD’s committed and dedicated staff, 24-hour service, as major reasons his Indian health facility, entered into the collaboration.
“With this partnership, we aim to upscale the staff, and make AMSH a center for medical excellence in Africa,” Dr. Sood said.
